Learning Through Competition: Qirui Pharmaceutical’s First Skills Competition

This “Study Role Models, Become a Skilled Professional” skills competition features Look good in medicine, quick-eyed and nimble-handed, keep germs at bay, spot flaws every day, all-around top student Through five key components—empowering through competition, cultivating talent via competition, and driving industry advancement through competition—the event not only fully showcased the skill levels of frontline employees and their understanding of GMP-related knowledge, while enhancing departmental team collaboration, but also helped participants identify shortcomings in their daily work and areas for improvement, thereby enabling the subsequent development of more targeted departmental improvement initiatives.

On the day of the competition, more than 90 production technicians from various workshops participated, forming six teams to compete on site. Wang Chunhui, Executive Deputy General Manager of Qirui Pharmaceutical; Haiyang, Director of Quality; Lu Yan, Director of Production; Yao Mengxia, Manager of the Process Technology Department, and other leaders were present to observe and provide guidance.

Prior to the event, Production Director Lu Yan emphasized that the purpose of this activity is to strengthen the company’s cultural development, foster a work environment characterized by mutual emulation and the pursuit of excellence, inspire employees to learn new technologies, hone their skills, and compete in technical proficiency, and cultivate a high-caliber team that is knowledge-based, skill-driven, and innovation-oriented. Following the announcement of the competition procedures and scoring criteria by Li Songqi, Head of the Injectable Products Workshop, the participants on site displayed unwavering enthusiasm, and the skills competition officially commenced!

The “Show Me the Medicine” segment covers all production areas at Qirui Pharmaceutical. On-site scenarios are designed to reflect common defects that arise in daily production, with contestants stepping into the role of inspectors to actively identify and pinpoint these issues—each one demonstrating a keen eye and zeroing in on the flaws.

The “Sharp Eyes and Quick Hands” segment is closely tied to packaging roles. Participants must inspect the three-stage product inspection, ensure the integrity of the packaging boxes, assess the appearance quality of the finished products, and maintain an appropriate packaging speed to complete tasks on time. Although the outer packaging process may seem simple and easy to perform, it places significant demands on contestants’ visual acuity, hand speed, attention to detail, and patience.

The “Microbial Isolation” segment encompasses all positions within the cleanroom area. The proper donning of cleanroom garments is closely linked to the production environment, and the contestants demonstrated expert proficiency, proceeding with meticulous care at every step.

The “Daily Fault-Finding” segment involves the lamp inspection and individual-package positions. As QC personnel in the production department, they are responsible for rigorously inspecting products before packaging—identifying nonconforming items and analyzing the root causes of defects, while also addressing weaknesses and knowledge gaps across all process steps.

The “All-Around Academic Star” segment covers all production positions. It features questions on aspects that are easily overlooked in daily work, integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice to deepen understanding and awareness of manufacturing processes and GMP.

Following a day of intense competition and rigorous evaluation by the on-site judges, the event has now come to a close, with three teams emerging as standouts!
