On June 3, 2016, the inaugural annual academic conference of the NIH Chinese Scholars Society (NIHCSSA), sponsored by Qirui, was successfully held at the NIH Bethesda Campus, attracting nearly 200 Chinese students and scholars from NIH and neighboring institutions such as Johns Hopkins University. The one-day conference was meticulously organized and received an overwhelmingly positive response.

Dr. Keji Zhao, a senior scientist at the NIH and Honorary Chair of the NIH CSSA, delivered the opening address at this conference. Dr. Zhao emphasized that for Chinese students and scholars in the United States, three factors are key to academic success: productivity, effective communication, and the development of a robust professional network. This conference is precisely designed to provide such a platform, enabling participants to build academic connections and explore opportunities for collaboration. More than twenty experts and scholars presented research talks at the event, covering a wide range of health-related medical fields—including cancer, neurological disorders, autoimmune diseases, and infectious diseases—and spanning cutting-edge areas such as genomics, epigenetics, structural biology, gene editing, and high-resolution imaging technologies. The presentations were both insightful and engaging, earning continuous applause.

Dr. Deng Chunsan, the current president of NIHCSSA, stated that the NIH, as a globally renowned professional organization for biomedical research, benefits greatly from the contributions of nearly 3,000 Chinese scientists working there. This conference provides a platform for exchange and intellectual dialogue among NIH staff and the broader community of Chinese scholars in the Washington, D.C., area. The successful organization of this event would not have been possible without the hard work of every member of the student association, as well as the generous support of companies such as Wuhan Qirui Pharmaceutical. NIHCSSA is committed to establishing this event as an annual signature program and warmly welcomes students and scholars to join the association, thereby providing an even better platform for interaction among more Chinese experts and academics.

Through this annual academic conference, our company has forged even stronger ties with a broad community of overseas experts and scholars, elevating our talent development strategy and R&D resource management platform to new heights.
